Who is Tim O’Reilly?
Tim O’Reilly is considered the creator of the term “Web 2.0“, the founder of O’Reilly Media (former O’Reilly & Associates) and creator of the “Code of Conduct” for blogs.
The Decoy
Many people give credit to O’Reilly for creating web 2.0, however he only came up with the term web 2.0, and not the concept.
Many recent changes seen on the internet are reflected upon his growth, the fusing between already existing technologies (javascript, xml, and others) was foretold, however, the name given to these technologies are news (ajax, sajax, and other names).
With changes accessing the Internet from dialup to broadband, the developers discovered they could invest on the interface of web based applications, getting closer and closer to emulating it’s functions with desktop systems.
Many names were given to these changes in focus, such as infoware, the internet operating system, and the open source paradigm shift, however the name which became well known was the one Tim O’Reilly suggested: web 2.0.
O’Reilly initially only had suggested the use of the name for the new paradigm, and not the paradigm itself, and it is at this point that lure is detected, because the media stated that O’Reilly created web 2.0′s concept, and not only merely its name.
The Fame
With the title of creator of web 2.0, O’Reilly began to enjoy the world wide fame, influencing many people with his opinion and his speeches, and enrolling in many subjects from Internet to free software.
Corrupting the Concepts
With his great worldwide fame, web 2.0 grew evermore, including collaborating websites (digg, furl, etc…) and blogs. O’Reilly decided to get involved with blogs, creating a code of conduct for them.
Based on the code, blogs should follow a series of rules, creating two distinctive groups, the ones who follow and the ones who don’t follow the rules (identifies by seals, a horn like wild west star for the ones who follow, and a bomb for the ones who don’t follow), creating a kind of procedure for them.
Completely destroying the concept of blogs, he decided to give liberty for them and created a way to manipulate the content of the blogs which followed the code, and at the same time eliminate the ones that didn’t follow the code, because this, in the eyes of O’Reilly, did not respect other blogs and readers, not being worthy of analizing.
With the creation of this code, Tim O’Reilly demonstrated that he wants, in whichever way, have control over the web, which is not acceptable.
What about you? What do you think of this subject?
